The Simplex Merlin is a dual voltage (240/480V), fine load step resolution, fully instrumented portable resistive load bank intended for shop or field use by engine generator dealers and service shops for maintenance, testing, and performance proving of engine generator sets, UPS, and other power systems up to 200-400 KW (depending on the model).

- Load Capacity: Max capacity up to 200, 250, 300, 350, or 400kW at 240 and 480 VAC, 3PH, 60Hz. Capacity derates at other voltages.
- Full Load Amps at 200 kW: 481 Amps at 240 VAC and 241 Amps at 480 VAC.
- Full Load Amps at 300 kW: 721 Amps at 240 VAC and 361 Amps at 480 VAC.
- Full Load Amps at 400 kW: 961 Amps at 240 VAC and 481 Amps at 480 VAC.
- Duty Cycle: Rated for continuous operation.
- Load Step Resolution: 5kW minimum at 240 and 480 VAC, 3PH, 60Hz.
- Controls: Master load toggle switch and load step toggle switches; Digital meter; Fan Reversal, Load Voltage Selector, and Control Voltage Selector switches; Operator indicator lights: normal operation, over-voltage, fan failure / over-temperature.
- Merlin 200-300 Control/Fan Power: User selectable from internal 208-240V load or from external 115V 1PH 60Hz source – power cord included (see Options below).
- Merlin 350-400 Control/Fan Power: User selectable from internal 3PH load or from external 3PH 230/460V source.
- Cooling: Three phase 6000-8000 CFM direct drive fan; Cast aluminum air foil type, shrouder propeller fan; Horizontal airflow – cold air intake from front, hot air exhaust out the rear.
- Load Elements: Simplex Powr-Web chromium alloy, open wire, continuously supported, power resistor.
- System Protections: Sensors, alarms (alarm message on remote operator interface terminal), lock-outs as appropriate, for the following: fan failure, high exhaust temperature, high intake temperature, high interior temperature (sensed at three points);
- Load Circuit Protection: branch circuit fuses. One set of fuses each 50KW branch. Fuses are current limiting type, 200,000 AIC, 600V, enabling safe use on large generating or UPS system.
- Load Connection: 12′ connection cable set including 3-phase power cables and ground cable, stowed behind hinged door in rear compartment.
- Enclosure: Exceptionally rugged, all welded, formed steel chassis. Lifting eyes, forklift channels, casters, and moving handle.
