Simplex Vulcan-5 MV Load Bank (5000kW)

The Simplex Vulcan-5 Medium Voltage Trailer-Mounted Resistive Load Bank System is ideal for medum voltage applications up to 5000kW and up to 34.5KVAC. Each system includes a 5MW low voltage 480V load bank, 5MVA medium voltage to low voltage transformer, digital controller, and semi-trailer. Multiple units can be networked together and controlled by a single operator interface for even higher capacity requirements.

• Control Power: Internal from load bus. Control circuits at 120V via transformer.
• Cooling Power: Internal from load bus. Cooling fan operates at 3-phase line voltage.
• Cooling: Forced air, vertical airflow, top exhaust. 20HP or 30HP, 3-phase, TEFC motor driving cast aluminum fan blade. Circuit breaker combination fan motor starter with adjustable overload relay.
• Load Elements: UL/CUL Recognized component. Open wire, helically wound, chromium alloy, thermally derated to 60%. 5% tolerance, 2% balance. 0.995 power factor. Element wire mechanically supported over entire length such that if a wire should break, the broken wire segments will not short to adjacent conductors or to ground.
• Element Circuit Protection: Branch circuit fuses, each 50kW branch circuit maximum, 200kAIC, 600V, current limiting type.
• System Protection: Fan failure, high exhaust temp, high intake temp, fan motor overload; lockout and alarm message display on HMI. Airflow pressure differential switch; dual exhaust temperature thermocouples; intake air temperature thermocouple; fan motor overload relay. Display of temperatures on HMI.
• Load Connections: Bus bars for MV connections.
• Enclosures: Three Type 3R enclosures – one for load bank section, one for transformer, and one for control section.
• Transformer: Dry type, 5000 kVA; MV Delta:480/270V 60Hz; Includes MV 1200A 3-pole manually-operable fixed-mounted fusible disconnect; Fused low voltage outputs.
• Network Capable: Capable of parallel operation to form very large systems of up to virtually unlimited capacity.
• Trailer: Highway 48ft “low-boy” tri-axle semi-trailer.

OPTIONAL Power Distribution Switchgear

• Outdoor, freestanding metal-enclosed 20MW power distribution switchgear consisting of multiple cubicles.
• Connects four Vulcan-5 load bank systems to generator switchgear.
• 15kV vacuum circuit breaker for each load bank trailer.
• Transformer Protection Relay for each breaker.
• Instrumentation potential and current transformers.
• Low voltage motor starter and control power cubicle.
• Network PLC control.
• Touchscreen operator interface.
